Jongjin Park transforme du papier en céramique : strates de feuilles imbibées de porcelaine teintée, comprimées, pliées ou sculptées, donnant des objets fibreux, paradoxalement minéraux.
A graduate (BFA, MFA) of Kookmin University (2007, 2009), where he recently completed a PhD in Ceramics, he also studied at Cardiff Metropolitan University. His layered pieces appear as though they could flake apart in the hand, while retaining the strength of porcelain.
His work embraces material trompe-l’œil: gradients, cuts, and edges reveal a marquetry of petrified fibers. Simple forms and structured architectures establish a dialogue between conceptual space and perception.
“My work asks us to consider what is real,” he explains. Drawing on an intimate understanding of ceramic processes, Park manipulates material and surface to provoke an experience of active doubt in the viewer.
