Céramique émaillée Unique

Morten Løbner Espersen (born in 1965 in Aalborg, Denmark) has been based in Copenhagen since 1992. He transforms the surfaces of the simplest forms, jars, cylinders, spheres, into landscapes of volcanic glazes and unpredictable textures.

Trained at the Denmarks Design School (Copenhagen, 1987–1992) and the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré (Paris, 1989–1990), Espersen has taught at the Kolding School of Design and HDK–Valand, Academy of Art and Design (Gothenburg). He has also served as a member of the Danish Arts Foundation and the International Academy of Ceramics (Geneva).

His works explore the infinite possibilities of glaze. Surfaces become covered in craters, drips, metallic crusts, or iridescent veils: each firing becoming an event in itself. Beneath their apparent formal rigor, every pot is an experiment in transformation, where matter rebels, burns, oxidizes, and transcends itself.

Espersen’s works are held in major collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), the Museum of Arts and Design (New York), the Musée Magnelli (Vallauris), the Designmuseum Denmark, and the Röhsska Museum (Gothenburg). He received the Detlefs Ceramic Prize (2018) and several grants from the Danish Arts Foundation.
