Jin Eui Kim
Jin Eui Kim explores optical illusions through tonal gradients and meticulously measured bands that disrupt the perception of volume. Originally from South Korea, he now lives in Cardiff (UK) and is a member of the Craft Potters Association.
After earning a BA in Contemporary Arts (Ceramics) from the University of Tasmania, he completed an MA and later a PhD in Ceramics at the Cardiff School of Art & Design. In 2011, he joined Fireworks Clay Studios (Cardiff), where he remains a full-time member.
His work has been exhibited internationally, at the Affordable Art Fair (New York), Context Miami, Art Karlsruhe, and Grassi Messe, as well as across the UK, including Ceramic Art London, Collect, London Art Fair, and exhibitions with Hauser & Wirth Somerset, The Scottish Gallery, The New Craftsman (St Ives), and Cube Gallery. He has also held solo exhibitions at Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste (France) and Llantarnam Grange (Wales).
Winner of numerous awards, including the Emmanuel Cooper Prize (Ceramic Art London 2018), Best Maker in Wales, and the Homes & Gardens Designer Awards, he has been twice shortlisted for the British Ceramics Biennial AWARD (2013, 2021) and has received support from the Arts Council of Wales (2018, 2020). Kim has developed a highly disciplined visual grammar based on the variation of band thickness, spacing, and tonal blocks. His works are held in major public collections, including the Manchester Art Gallery, the National Museum Cardiff, the National Museum of Scotland, and the Shipley Art Gallery.
