Rosa-Ly Chave
Rosa-Ly Chave (born in 1988) is a ceramic artist and sculptor whose work intertwines sensuality, instinct, and tension. In her pieces, the softness of modeling coexists with a raw, almost animal energy, the clay seems to breathe, tremble, and waver between caress and bite.
After studying art history, she graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon (2012) and later from HEAD – Haute École des Arts du Rhin (Strasbourg, 2014). This dual training nourishes a body of work that is both erudite and instinctive, where classical rigor meets disquieting sensuality. The forms she shapes, body fragments, growths, loops, and folds, express a physical, almost carnal relationship to matter.
Rosa-Ly Chave often speaks of an obsessive, slow, and meticulous modeling process, in which each gesture is accompanied by a silent dialogue with the clay. Her sculptures oscillate between polished softness and contained aggression, between attraction and repulsion, creating a bestial universe where instinct sweeps away morality.
Since 2022, she has been teaching at the École Duperré in Paris, where she coordinates the ceramics department. This pedagogical activity extends her research, transmitting a way of making that combines discipline, desire, and freedom.
